Spring cleanup checklist for Strongsville lawns

Ohio winters are hard on yards. By March, most Strongsville properties have matted leaves in the beds, sticks everywhere, and salt damage along the driveway. Here’s the order we tackle a spring cleanup — and what you can check yourself.

1. Clear the beds first

Leaves left in beds over winter smother perennials and hold moisture against your foundation. Blow or rake them out before anything else greens up.

2. Cut back dead growth

Ornamental grasses, hostas and last year’s perennial stems should be cut back before new growth makes the job twice as hard.

3. Re-edge the beds

Winter heaves and freezes blur bed lines. A fresh edge in early spring sets up the whole season — and makes mulch look twice as good.

4. Check for salt and plow damage

Look along driveways and road edges for torn turf and salt-burned grass. Early spring is the best time to rake it out, re-grade and reseed.

5. First mow — not too short

The first mow should take off the tips, not scalp the lawn. Cutting too short early stresses the grass and opens the door to weeds.

If that sounds like a full weekend (it usually is), we do complete spring cleanups — beds, edging, trimming, debris hauling — across Strongsville and the southwest suburbs. Request a free estimate and we’ll take it off your plate.
